When IKEA product design developer Bonnie Yu and her project team received boxes of furniture at her office, they had a problem on their hands. Within a few weeks they had about 30 sets of living room storage furniture on hand. And no one was moving into their office!

They were buying these boxes for a different purpose. Their aim was to understand and be inspired by what IKEA markets are looking for when it comes to storage in the living room at the most pocket-friendly prices.

The inspiration, clarity on price points and the designs needed led to the creation of the BAGGEBO range, the first complete living room storage solution developed by IKEA. The new, affordable range includes bookcases, open shelving units, display cabinets, TV stand and closed storage units. All these products can be combined for a coordinated look or used individually.

Being suitable for living in small spaces is also one of the main criteria for this living room storage solution. So how did IKEA manage to do all this? Bonnie, IKEA designers Johanna and David Wahl focused on creating lightness by combining metal and straight lines for the range.
