You can examine our comfortable, useful, ergonomic and long-lasting double mattresss in this category.

What should be considered when buying a double mattress?

Although we do not care as much as our visible furniture, choosing our mattress is also a very personal and important choice. But of course, before choosing your mattress, you need to choose a bed frame model for your bedroom that is both beautiful in appearance and functional. You can consider some different elements of the model you will choose among our bedstead types.

The first factor to consider is whether your bed will be a single or double bed. Single beds can often be preferred in young rooms or for individuals who live alone and have little space. Most adults prefer double beds. Double beds can have different sizes, different materials, aesthetics and even storage areas. For example, fabric beds provide a more sophisticated and stylish look, while wooden beds bring a more natural and cosy atmosphere to the furniture in your room. Double beds with bases can provide you with the appropriate space for your bed textiles, seasonal clothes and items that you do not want to stand in the middle. Our double bed bases have different mechanisms with drawers or lifting, so you can easily choose for your space and belongings. You can also combine the storage areas with scraps to protect your belongings from dust and dirt.

What should be the ideal double bed size?

Whether it is a box spring, wooden, or in different colours and aesthetics, double beds can also have different sizes within themselves. Narrow and small double beds can function as a large single bed in small bedrooms, while large and wide double beds can be the centre of the room in large rooms and provide plenty of space for two people. The size of your bed is the first thing to consider when choosing the right mattress for your bed. Once you have determined the size of your bed, you can start to examine our double beds in different materials, comfort and budget.

If you have decided on the size of the double bed you need to buy, you can now start examining our double mattress models by considering factors such as material, cleanliness, hardness and budget.

What firmness should a double mattress have?

You can start choosing your mattress from the degree of hardness you prefer. The firmness of your mattress directly affects your ergonomics and therefore your sleep quality. A mattress with a suitable firmness for your body should support the natural curves of your body, but should not be too soft. Your mattress should primarily be suitable for supporting your spine, which works all day and supports you. When choosing a mattress according to its firmness, you can take into account your height, weight and the position you usually sleep in. Evaluating your own ergonomics is one of the most important factors to consider when choosing between double mattress models.

For side sleepers, for example, softer or medium-firm mattresses are more suitable. Medium-firm double mattresses easily adapt to the shape of your body and offer as little resistance as possible to your spine when sleeping on your side. If you sleep on your back or face down, you may prefer a firmer mattress. Firm double mattresses keep your spine straight when lying on your back and offer resistance to your spine. This can help reduce the pain you experience during the day and help you have a comfortable sleep.

Finding the most comfortable double mattress model for you can be challenging if you haven't chosen your old mattress yourself. For this reason, you can come to our stores and try our double mattresses in different firmness and materials. All our new double mattress models come with a 90-day replacement campaign, so if you want to change to a firmer or softer mattress, you can easily decide within 90 days and get the best double mattress model for you.

Double mattress models

The most distinctive features of double mattress models are their materials. Different materials directly affect both the ergonomics and cleanliness of the mattress. Materials are also effective in budget, duration of use and different hardness options. For this reason, if you have decided what the size and hardness of your double mattress model should be, you can start examining different mattress materials.

Sponge mattresses are soft, flexible and adapt to the shape of the body. They distribute your weight evenly and help you relax completely. They also help blood circulation as there is no extra pressure on any part of your body. Foam mattresses are also shock absorbent. Thanks to their flexibility, they fit perfectly on bed bases with adjustable slats. There are many different types of foam to meet different needs. When developing our foam mattresses, we aim to increase renewable ingredients such as soya, castor or canola oil. We are also working to increase the recyclable content.

Standard foam is synthetic and sometimes also called polyurethane foam. The cell structure is usually very fine and open, which makes the foam pleasant to the touch. Standard foam is also very versatile and is available in a wide range of densities and hardnesses. There are many types, including memory foam, high resilience foam and high density foam.

High resilience foam is the highest grade of polyurethane foam. It contains higher quality components that contribute to its resilience. The cell structure in HR foam is irregular. Its properties depend on the quality of the components used in the process and the final density. Higher density means better quality, better support and longer comfort time.

Memory foam (or visco elastic foam) is polyurethane foam with additional components to increase its viscosity and density. Memory foam can feel hard at low temperatures but softens in response to body temperature and weight. In this way, it adapts exactly to your body in a few minutes. "Plush mattress" means an extra soft mattress. These are usually made of memory foam to give a soft feel.

Natural latex is harvested from the rubber tree and processed to make foam. The foam is poured into a mould to form a mattress base. Synthetic latex is produced artificially. Latex is very durable. It consists of millions of open cells and provides excellent air circulation. Latex is dense and can therefore feel heavy. Natural latex is very elastic. Synthetic latex is less elastic but more consistent and long-lasting. Natural latex is also biodegradable. We use organic compounds that can emit an odour in the first days of use. This odour will disappear over time.

Blend materials are simply a combination of different materials. The reason for mixing is to get the best qualities from each material. For example, by mixing cotton and linen we get the lustre and texture of linen and the softness and durability of cotton. When we blend cotton and polyester, we get a soft fabric that both wrinkles less and shrinks less than a 100% cotton fabric. Find out more by clicking on the arrows.

As with the material, you can consider many different aspects such as the right support, comfort and price when deciding which type of springs are best for your double mattress.

Spring mattresses are extremely durable. They offer excellent support because they evenly distribute your body weight. You won't feel too hot either, as the open spring structure allows air to circulate. However, a great mattress is not only built on springs. It is the combined effect of stabilising materials, a comfort layer and felt. There are many types of mattresses with springs. IKEA mattresses have Bonnell or pocket springs, because they are suitable for customers all over the world. We have a long history of working with both.

Bonnell springs are made from a continuous piece of interconnected steel wire twisted into hourglass-shaped coils. These form a large set of combined springs. The hourglass shape absorbs the weight of the body and creates the desired size and comfort of the spring core. Since they are connected to each other, you may feel a little "wavy" when lying on them. In some mattresses we also use mini Bonnell springs. These are a lower type of spring and are often used as a second suspension system. Using these two types together helps to create extra comfort. Bonnell springs are durable and are usually used in our lowest priced mattresses.

Pocket springs are individually wound coil systems. These barrel-shaped rings are wrapped in fabric. They are then sewn into mattresses under the comfort layer of foam or other material. Each pocket spring works independently. This provides more contour and pressure point relief than the Bonnell spring. They come in a variety of sizes to create the desired level of comfort. Remember, a great mattress is not just about having lots of springs. Other important factors are having the right combination of springs, core and comfort materials.

How to clean a double mattress?

Mattresses get a lot of wear and tear. That's why double mattresss are made to cope with everyday life and night sleep. However, anything can happen in everyday life. By following a few tips on mattress care, you can extend the life of your mattresses, get a more comfortable night's sleep and reduce the risk of mattress-related allergies.
Roll-packed mattresses can be used immediately, but it takes 3-4 days to fully recover their shape, length and thickness. The new materials have a distinctive odour. It is not harmful and will gradually disappear. Airing and vacuuming your mattress before use will help get rid of the odour.

When you keep your mattresses and mattress toppers clean, they will last longer. And it makes you feel more comfortable. Using a mattress topper and a mattress protector keeps your mattress clean and useful. Mattress protectors can be washed frequently and at high temperatures.

Vacuum the mattress, mattress topper and mattress base from time to time. Open the windows when vacuuming, especially if you have allergies or asthma.

If something spills and stains the mattress, use a mild soapy solution with cold water and furniture shampoo. Apply the water little by little. Avoid all heavy chemicals because they can seriously damage the mattress and have a negative impact on your health. Some mattresses have a cover that can be removed for washing. So you can easily remove the cover and clean it in the washing machine. For example, most of our foam mattresses have removable and washable covers. Most of our spring mattresses have fixed covers. This means that they cannot be removed for washing. These mattresses should be wiped with a damp cloth and mild cleaners and left to dry for a while.

Allergies to chemicals suitable for consumer use are not very common, but can occur if a person is very sensitive. Most allergic reactions to mattresses are likely to be caused by dust mites. Therefore, make sure that the material and cleaning of your mattress is such that you can use it comfortably with your allergies.

How often should double mattresses be replaced?

Even the best mattresses become less comfortable with age. And all mattresses accumulate dust and mites over the years. We therefore recommend replacing a mattress every 8-10 years. This is in line with our 10-year guarantee.
